Richard Callingham has been painting in watercolours for over 40 years. In the late 60’s he was lucky enough to meet Norman Wilkinson, the great 20th Century marine artist. Norman Wilkinson influenced Richard greatly, as he loved his style and traditional technique with watercolours. Richard uses a palette very similar to his, though of course over the years one’s style and palette change as you find your own preferences. Richard took up watercolour painting full time over 20 years ago, within that time he has concentrated mostly on commissions and teaching. Richard has been teaching watercolour painting since the middle 90’s when he was asked to be the resident artist in a hotel in Corfu. Also teaching in Marrakech, Alaska, Bahamas, French Pyrenees, Spain, Elba and The Salters’ Hall in London.Richards’ whole approach to teaching is to keep it as simple as possible. It is only by this apparent simplistic approach that confidence can be gained quickly in understanding how the medium works. The main priority is to have fun!All the materials are provided for your first few classes, so if you are trying out watercolours for the first time you don’t have to spend money until you need to.
